Based on the novel by Stephen King, and working from a screenplay he wrote himself, Director Taylor Hackford had never made a horror film before taking on this dark tale of murder. Dolores Claiborne didn't do well at the box office but over the years it's gained some attention, and is considered one of the better, more grounded of the Stephen King films.
