Duel was originally meant to be a TV movie. It proved to be so popular that Director Steven Spielberg was given extra money to film some additional scenes so that Duel could have a theatrical run.
With nothing more than one car, a large black truck, and endless miles of Cailfornia desert highway, Spielberg made one of the best horror movies of the early 70's and kicked off a career that would change cinema forever.
