1968 was an impressive year for movies of all genres. 2001: A Space Odyssey, Planet of the Apes, The Lion in Winter, Charley, The Producers, and more. Meanwhile horror gave us The Witchfinder General, Rosemary's Baby, and Night of the Living Dead, three films who's DNA runs through horror flicks made to this day.
Lost in all of them though was The Swimmer. A more low key, Twilight Zone style horror movie starring 50's leading man Burt Lancaster, in one of his best performances, as a man who for some reason decides to "swim" home via the backyard pools of every single residence of a rich neighborhood.
Forgotten about for decades The Swimmer started gaining ground these last few years thanks to many movie YouTubers creating video essays dissecting this forgotten gem for it's slow burn unease and deeper meanings about the lie of the "American Dream".
This special edition includes interviews with several cast members, the original John Cheever short story, notes written by Stuart Gordan, a CD of the original soundtrack, and more.
